In our country, successive democratically elected governments have put the country on the path of progress since independence. Today as a nation we can boast that we are in a position which probably in the furthest of imagination nobody could even dream of when we Just attained independence in 1947. As our president Dr. Abdul Kalam has mentioned that by 2020 he dreams of an India which will be recognized as one of the most powerful nations of the world. The heavy engineering industry also took giant leaps in the post independence era. Oil, mining, cement and metal industries also progressed significantly. The industrial scenario in the country has undergone a sea change in the last one decade. Liberalisation of economy has exposed the Indian industries to lobal competition. The management of industries is increasingly shifting from the government to the private sector. Indian industries are having a trying time to meet global standards in terms of quality and cost. They have to benchmark their production against the best in the world. The oil exploration industry has to be given a major thrust as a substantial portion of our crude oil requirements is met through imports, which means heavy drain of foreign exchange from the exchequer. The Indian refineries are not only augmenting their capacity, but also producing better uality fuel as well as lubricating base oil through state-of-the-art refining technology. The agricultural sector has witnessed a major revolution and today we can proudly say that we are in a position to generate surplus food grain for export after feeding one billion hungry mouths in our country. This is a commendable achievement, which has been made possible through the Green Revolution with major change being brought about by improved irrigation, and mechanized agricultural techniques. Strategic Planning Essays (969 words) - Strategic Management

Strategic Planning Strategic Planning: A Dynamic Duty Tiqila Bryson-Finney Organization Theory And Design August 7, 2000 Coca-Cola and Pepsi Cola are household names. Together they control soft drink market. Their success can be attributed to their overall strategy to produce and promote their products. They both decided to build global brands to bottlers throughout the world. And a portion of the proceeds goes toward advertising to build and maintain brand awareness. The bottlers are responsible for producing and distributing to vending machines, supermarkets, restaurants, and other retail outlets. However, the advertising is left up to Coca-Cola and Pepsi. In addition, the bottlers must sign an agreement that prohibits them from distributing competing cola brands. Their strategy is simple, yet dynamic. It forces bottlers to enter into exclusive agreements, which creates a high barrier to entry into the industry. Any potential competitor must create their distribution network rather than use the existing one. And the large amounts of money spent on advertising helps to develop a global brand name and differentiate their products. Furthermore, brand loyalty allows both companies to charge high prices. Accordingly, managers must study the way other organizations behave and identify their strategies. In an uncertain or unstable competitive environment, managers must hold fast in thorough planning to find a strategy that allows them to compete effectively. Strategic planning involves three major steps: determining an organizations mission and major goals, choosing strategies to realize the mission and goals, and implementation of the strategies. Determining the organizations mission and goals is the first step of the planning process. To define the mission managers must ask themselves Who are our customers, are their needs being satisfied, and how are we satisfying them? These questions allow the manager to identify the needs for the present and future. They also help the managers to plan and establish appropriate goals and disregard inappropriate goals. Developing goals give an organization a sense of direction. Coca-Colas mission to maximize shareowner value over time is backed by six key beliefs: 1) Consumer demand drives everything we do. 2) Brand Coca-Cola is the core of our business. 3) We will serve customers a broad selection of the nonalcoholic ready to drink beverages they want to drink throughout the day. 4) We will be the best marketers in the world. 5) We will think and act locally. 6) We will lead as a model corporate citizen (Cola, 2000). These objectives are their strategy to increase sales to improve profit. Their goals are ambitious and require that managers continually improve performance capabilities. Once the mission and goals are agreed upon and formally stated in a corporate plan, the next step is to formulate a strategy. Strategy formulation involves managers analyzing an organizations current situation and then developing strategies to accomplish its mission and achieve its goals. It begins with analyzing the factors within the organization and outside, in the environment, that may affect its ability to meet its goals now and in the future. SWOT analysis is a technique used by managers to analyze these factors. Its planning exercise identifies organizational strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Based on SWOT analysis managers are capable of implementing the best strategies to achieve its organizations mission and goals. It is assumed Coca-Cola has a well-developed strategy, brand name reputation, good marketing skills and differentiation advantage as strengths. One of their opportunities was expanding into foreign markets. One of their weaknesses would be their recent conflict and politics. And a potential threat would be an increase in industry rivalry (Pepsi). With the SWOT analysis completed, and strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats identified managers can determine strategies to achieve the organizations mission and goals. These strategies should enable the organization to attain its goals by taking advantage of opportunities, attacking threats, building strengths, and correcting weaknesses. After identifying the strategies needed to achieve an organizations mission and goals, managers must confront the challenge of putting those strategies to action. Strategy implementation requires managers to allocate responsibilities to appropriate individuals or groups, draft detailed action plans that specify how a strategy is to be implemented, establish a timetable for implementation that includes precise, measurable goals linked to the attainment of the action plan, allocate appropriate resources to the responsible individuals or groups,

Jennie Phan Essays

Jennie Phan Essays Jennie Phan Paper Jennie Phan Paper Board Essay Task Mark could never imagine that this telephone call could change his life forever. â€Å"Whenever I think about what happened, I always think that it is a miracle that changed my life. It’s like my accidental destiny! † Mark said. Twenty years ago, when Mark was a twenty-five-year-old man, he was still living in a garret of one of the oldest building in New York City. He used to work as an effective worker of a small chocolate factory. He specialized in making the confectionery from chocolate and cocoa. He then quit his job because of his dissatisfaction with the treatment of the manager and the poor condition of working there. He was unemployed for the time being and lived on very little. However, he still continued carrying out experiments to find and create some new flavours of candy with the help of his closest friend Annie – a professor of chemistry in Boston University. They cooperated with each other in developing some flavours of the confectionery. Contrary to Mark’s expectation, it did not worked out as they were having many trouble with finding such an excellent flavor that could attract the producers. One day, as usual, Mark sat on his desk and started working. Ten days had passed but his research still went nowhere. Suddenly, an idea crossed his mind. He immediately stood up, ran to his â€Å"laboratory† – a large space near the corner of the room where he used to do experiments – and then spent a whole day in there. It was not until the nightfall that he stopped to find something to eat and right after that, he came back to work again. After many hours conducting experiments, he finally felt an incredible sense of relief. With a new research on his hands, Mark went towards the telephone and made a phone call to Annie. He hurriedly dialed her telephone. Mark was so excited that he spoke right after the receiver had picked the phone up. Hi Ann! I know that it is very late now but I really want to tell you an important thing. † Mark went to the point â€Å"I have just found a new flavor of candy. I’m sure that you will be surprised a lot when you taste it. It is very strange but simple as well. Do you ever think about making chocolates with aromatic wine inside? Of course we just use a little amount of wine to make the chocolate smell attractive and tasty. We also can add a few cashew nuts along with almond, a little milk and button in the chocolate candy. I’ve just tried and I think it is perfectly wonderful! You should try once†¦Ã¢â‚¬ Mark talked a blue streak. After that, Mark stopped to wait for the reaction of his partner. The receiver was silent for nearly a minute and then suddenly exclaimed: â€Å" Oh! It’s extremely amazing! Why have I never thought about it before? You are truly a genius! † Mark was very surprised as the voice he had just heard did not belong to Annie. It belonged to another man. He realized that he had accidentally dialed the wrong number and worse, he had just told a stranger his biggest invention. â€Å"Who are you? † Mark worriedly asked. â€Å"Oh! I’m so sorry for my rudeness. † The stranger said â€Å" My name is Steven Springfield. I’m the CEO of ChocoChips Company. Can I have your name? † Mark was so surprised that he could not speak a word. He could not believe his ears. ChocoChips Company was one of the biggest companies in the world where they specialized in producing the confectionery. Mark had known Mr. Springfield and his company since he was ten and he had been always dreaming of working in there and becoming a person like him. â€Å"Hi†¦ My name is†¦ Mark†¦ Mark Potter. Nice to meet you, Mr. Springfield. †. â€Å" Nice to meet you, Mr. Potter. I am surprised a lot when I listen to what you said. I really like your ideal. It is incredible! And if you don’t mind, I want to copyright it. I will pay it at any cost. What do you think about my request? Or may I meet you some time? We can talk carefully about it. † said Mr. Springfield. â€Å"That’s a great idea. I will be free tomorrow. We can meet tomorrow morning. Is it good for you? †. â€Å"Certainly, please come to my office any time you want. I will wait for you. You know its address, don’t you†. â€Å"Yes, I do† Mark said â€Å"I will meet you at 8 a. m. † The next day, Mark came to ChocoChips Company to meet Mr. Springfield. They had a long conversation. Not only Mr. Springfield but also all of the other board members of the company were very impressed by Mark’s idea. As a result, he was employed and in charge of product development. Since then, his life has changed completely. By his excellent abilities, Mark made the board, especially the CEO, feels so satisfied with his work. He has created many excellent flavours of the confectionery which have been loved by children all over the world. The sales of the company has raised a lot accordingly. Within ten years, he got a lot of promotions and became a very famous man. Mark is not a poor unemployed man anymore. He now is the CEO of ChocoChips Company. He took over from the previous one – Mr. Springfield – after his retirement. He has moved to live in an extremely luxurious apartment in Manhattan, New York. Many people want to be like Mark Potter. He is praised for his succession and his great career. Somebody even said that Mark had changed the face of the confectionery industry of the USA. However, whenever Mark was asked about his secret of succession, he just says: â€Å"If it had not been for that accidentally wrong call, I would not have had the career like I have today. That phone call did change my life forever! †

Capitol Punishment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Capitol Punishment - Essay Example The issue is approached using key points such as the moral implications of death penalty and the effectiveness of this method in deterring crimes. The judicial system of any state should be primarily concerned with the upholding of the rights of aggravated parties since it is their rights which were initially violated. The emotional and psychological effect of such violation is not only experienced by the victim but his/her family and community as well. In this regard, they deserve the type of justice in accordance with the degree by which their rights were violated. With this, heinous crimes such as murder should be punishable by death. The Roman Catholic Church and organizations like Amnesty International counter that the morality of this punishment is questionable since even the life of criminals are deemed sacred. This argument may not be simply accepted by the victims whose lives were intentionally violated and their families as well. They too have the right to be ensured that punishments for crimes against them have been carried out and other people in the community would not have to suffer the same fate. The capital punishment is considered as a way to deter crime since convicted criminals may no longer roam the streets with increased likelihood of repeating the offense.
